二十四節気七十二候(24 Sekki and 72 Ko)
「Japanese lunisolar calendar; Japanese microseasons」
Each solar term(二十四節気) is divided into three pentads (七十二候).
Each pentad consists of five or six days, and are mostly named after biological or botanical phenomena corresponding to the pentad.
24-2 雨水 (Rainwater)
Usui
雨 水
rain water
Snowfall turns to rain, and the snow begins to melt.
72-4 土脉潤起 (Rain moistens the soil)
February 19–23The earth becomes damp.
Tsuchi no shō uruoi okoru
土 の 脉 潤い 起こる

「脉」は「脈」 地脈、すなわち大地。earth
72-5 霞始靆 (Mist starts to linger)
February 24–28Hase first covers the sky.
Kasumi hajimete tanabiku
霞 始めて 靆く
春に出る霧は霞(かすみ)。
夜の霞は朧(おぼろ)。
靆(たなび)くのは霞(かすみ)。
立ち上るのが霧(きり)。
草木萌動 (Grass sprouts, trees bud)
March 1–5Prints show their first buds.

In ancient times the Japanese divided their year into 24 periods based on classical Chinese sources. The natural world comes to life in the even more vividly named 72 subdivisions of the traditional Japanese calendar.
